Wanted to restore posts which I thought were federated... but apparently were not!?

A couple of days ago, I had posted a rapid succession of posts on my channel, which I thought had automatically got federated since with each of them I had turned on "Post to Hubzilla" (shouldn't this be the ActivityPub connector?)... (I haven't checked then whether they got federated. These were archival texts drawn from my extensive, impossible-to-automatically-import Facebook archive dump.)

Then I face a technical issue with my VPS and am forced to restore a backup of it from before the aforementioned posts.

Unsurprisingly, the more recent posts are missing. But to my horror, I checked the mirrors of my channel from other fediverse instances on which I have secondary accounts which follow my Hubzilla channel... and there were none of those recent posts.

How can this happen? How to make it more certain that specific or any and all channel posts will get federated? Am I missing something - like am I supposed to also click on "Post to

...am I supposed to also click on "Post to GNU Social" and "Post to Friendica"? I had installed plugins for more than ActivityPub. In the first place, why on none of these options does it say clearly which one is meant for ActivityPub?!

At first, I was a bit confused by the question. Why would you need to enable ‘post to Hubzilla’ when publishing a post... and where would you do that?

Then I found it. You’re asking here about the cross-posting connectors. This means: On your Hub, the Hubzilla Crosspost Connector (redred) add-on has been enabled by the admin (presumably by you, as it appears to be your own Hub) and the “Hubzilla Crosspost Connector” app is installed in your channel. The cross-posting icon

will then appear in the post editor’s toolbar, allowing you to select “Post to Hubzilla”. However, this is for cross-posting; it means that the post will also be published on a specific other channel. To select/configure the channel, you need to access the (very hidden) settings of this app: <YOUR_HUB>/redred. There you can then enter the necessary login details for that other channel, ensuring that a post where “Post to Hubzilla” is selected is now also published from that channel.

However, this has absolutely nothing to do with your post actually being published on Hubzilla. That always happens, even without this app. The post is published on your channel and, depending on the selected permissions, is also sent to your connections and synchronised with clones.

Was it your intention for posts to be published on another channel as well? Have you configured the app accordingly?
I have no experience of whether this app works correctly, as I have never used it. The name alone (redred) suggests that the add-on is already ‘somewhat’ older. Perhaps that is where the error lies. In any case, it has nothing to do with the synchronisation of clones. Nor does it have anything to do with whether your post is sent to the grid and to your connections.

By the way: I need to have a go at the cross-posting apps (as far as I can) and then add that to the documentation.
