#ResponsibleAI, #EthicalAI and a bunch of other flavors. Responsible for what? In which ethical way?

Terms similar to #DigitalTransformation. Well-meant perhaps, but in practice just another fad. Why? Transformation to what? For whom exactly? Well, in reality it boils down to cost-savings and profit maximisation. Business as usual.

Same with #AI. And add to that "world domination" where it comes to its techbro-fascist owners and their #EpsteinClass.

Technological innovation just ain't the same as societal progress, never was. Yet we treat it as if they are equivalent. Why not put things in simpler terms:

🌈 #BeneficialAI

The kind that supports people's daily needs, and is respective of the intrinsic values of #Humanity and #Freedom that we hold dear.

Simply put: AI that serves #Humankind.

@smallcircles It's all very much Gartner-driven. All those technology radars are lifted from Gartner reports and similar. So it becomes an echo-tunnel. AI too. The sudden emergence of the "Enterprise Digital Twin¨, semantic modelling etc: making companies fit for agentic AI. That's the hype now.

I agree with some futurists who predict the rise of ethical capitalism. It’s safe to assume that the issue of ethical responsibility will remain a pressing concern, especially for those working in the digital field. Developers should therefore adopt one of these “ethical mindsets”:

1.) Sustainable mindset: characterized by an ecological way of thinking, a desire for natural systems, self-actualization, and multiple perspectives. Guidance is derived from self-reflective ethical principles.
2.) Holistic mindset: defined by collective individualism, altruism, large-scale change, the universal common good, and the questioning of supposed certainties—as a universal, equilibrium-oriented ethic.

The question is, which mindset does an organization need in order to evaluate business models ethically?

Why not both, and in a seamless continuum?Large-scale change comes from individual behavioral changes, the ecological 'cell level'. The universal common good is an emergent quality from how all individuals act, and if that is with a sustainability mindset the outcome is likely better.

An organization is like a group of cells. If it only acts to benefit its internal participants to maximum extent, to the cost of its surroundings, it is breaking both mindsets. It may grow fast and becomes more like a tumor.

Ethical capitalism assumes that people know to define what is ethical at large scale, where it forms our societal system. The 'right' ethics an emergent quality. I am loathe to use labels such as "capitalism" for how broad, overloaded, and thereby weaponised they are.

But I think there is something to it. We navigate life based on self-interested needs, and must do that in a holistically sustainable 'dance' in concert with others.

@smallcircles developers usually do not make product or business decisions as the power dynamics for decision making in a profit making business usually occur in the financial “profit-centre”, not the “implementation or production-centre”.
The use of the current AI implementation is not decided by developers. It’s imposed by the “efficiency-seeking” profit-center, the same way using efficient typewriters & then (computers + business software - skilled humans) were imposed as tools of business.

I agree with you on that. My other thoughts on the subject aren’t very precise, though. But according to my literature note on the topic, experts refer to this subject using the term ELSI (Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications). It describes the comprehensive effects of a digital application on its context—legally, socially, and ethically and morally.

@smallcircles @dahukanna there is no such thing and there can be no such thing. What is currently marketed as "AI" is a deeply fascist technology, and, from an ML PoV, reportedly not even all that interesting.

@smallcircles - In #infosec, the terms "Responsible" and "Ethical" always mean "Corporate" (and sometimes "Legal").

Therefore protecting the information security and ensuring the operations of a company like Palantir is considered ethical, even while it's operations are grossly unethical...

...and degrading or denying the operations of the same is considered unethical, even though the actions are ethical in stopping harm.

So, in short, #EthicalAI and #ResponsibleAI just mean AI that enriches corporations and billionaires while actively hurting the majority of people and the biosphere.
