No HQ, No public stream

How to configure the account to go directly to the 'stream' module, especially without the constant annoyance to install the 'public stream'?

Install the ‘Startpage’ app on your channel.

In the app menu, you can now select which page is displayed after logging in or when the base URL is called up. Enter ‘network’ there.

No one is forcing you to install the public stream. I don't see what the problem is.

So you don't mean the default page for logged-in users, but the home page of the hub for users who are not logged in.

As a user, you (but you are not a user unless you are logged in) cannot change this. This is the responsibility of the admin, who can do so under Admin → Page → Site homepage to show visitors (default: login box).

A workaround for you (you seem to be using Zotum in the grid) would be to set the link to this Hubzilla hub in your bookmarks at https://zotum.net/login. Then, when you access it, if you are not logged in, you will end up on the ‘naked’ login page. If you are logged in and you click on the link, you will be shown the page that is selected as the home page (i.e. the default ‘HQ’ or the page that you entered in the ‘Startpage’ app).

And THAT'S exactly what the ‘Startpage’ app does. If that doesn't work on your hub, then there's something wrong with the hub or you could try clearing the browser cache.

Because I was interested in this, I created an account at zotum.net and a channel.

I also installed the ‘Startpage’ app for the channel and entered ‘network’ as the homepage after logging in (for the stream view).

Now it behaves like this:

When I log in by entering https://zotum.net/login, the stream view appears as expected after logging in. So it's exactly as I described.

But if I go to https://zotum.net when I'm not logged in, the page ‘pubstream’ preset by the admin appears. If I now click on ‘Login’ in the top left of the navigation bar, only the login dialogue opens (on the current page). If I now log in, I actually end up on the ‘pubstream’ page (logged in) and, because I haven't installed the app for it, I am asked to install the ‘Pubstream’ app.

So the behaviour in this case (logging in via the login dialogue instead of via the login page) is exactly as @citc describes it.

So I quickly went to my hub Klackerhub, logged in as admin and set the page so that visitors (not logged in) are shown the ‘pubstream’ page.

And then the behaviour is exactly the same as with Zotum. If I log in via the /login page, I end up on the HQ page – or on the stream page if I have set it up that way in the ‘startpage’ app. But if I log in from the ‘welcome page’, i.e. after switching to ‘pubstream’ by clicking on Login in the top left corner of the login dialogue that then appears, then - contrary to the setting of the ‘startpage’ app - I end up on the ‘pubstream’ page, which then asks me to install the (not yet installed) ‘pubstream’ app.

This is not a good user experience for users who reject ‘pubstream’ for themselves.

@Mario Vavti Is it possible to fix this? So that even after logging in with the login dialogue, which is superimposed on the currently displayed page of the hub, you end up on the default home page (HQ) or the page set with the ‘startsite’ app, instead of logged in on the last page visited (in this case ‘pubstream’)?

This makes sense because you might want to login to someone elses cloud to be able to download some restricted files. Of course you can also login to the pubstream for similar reasons. If you want to login to /network, navigate to network and login from there.

@Mario Vavti This makes sense if Startpage is not installed.

But the purpose of Startpage is to define one landing page after login. So to my understanding, Startpage should override the page from which you've logged in, whichever page you've logged in from, instead of certain pages overriding Startpage.

If you want to return to the page on which you've logged in after logging in, you should simply keep Startpage uninstalled.

Ok, that makes sense. So it should definitely stay that way! Although I also like the idea of @Jupiter Rowland 's override.

Generally speaking, this behaviour isn't a problem. Those who are really ‘sensitive’ should then look for a hub where the pubstream is not set up as the landing page.

The addon description says:

Set a preferred page to load on login from home page

And that is what it does. It will redirect you to whereever you want, if you login from .

At the end of the day I think it does not matter. Either way somebody will complain

I do wish that, as an Administrator, we could pre-activate certain apps for all of our new users. They would still be able to deactivate it, but when they create a new channel, it comes already activated.

Well, pubstream is a system app. It does not belong to a channel. Hence the admin can decide what to do with it in general. The channels are given the possibility to install it for their channel or not...

In any case, it is important to me to note here that @citc did not invent the behaviour he disapproves of, or that he is doing something wrong. At first, I had serious doubts that this would occur with the hub he uses, but I have now determined that it does and I know what the reason is.

@citc : The workaround works, though. Change the link in the browser to https://zotum.net/login. If you are not logged in, you can do that there and end up on the standard landing page (HQ) or where you set up the ‘startpage’ app. If you are logged in and access the link, you will end up directly on the standard landing page without the login screen.
