Hubzilla selfhosting

Would you like to be independent of other hub operators? Do you have some experience with Linux and the command line? Do you have space on a root server, a virtual server (VPS) or a web hosting package that also allows you shell access? Or do you have a computer at home that can be used as a server, or perhaps a Raspberry Pi, and are you connected to the internet?

Then (compared to many other Fediverse services) it's not a big problem to install and operate a hub yourself in a short time.

You will need your own domain (or subdomain) with an SSL certificate.

In addition, the system on which you want to install Hubzilla must meet the following requirements:

Apache with mod-rewrite enabled and ‘AllowOverride All’ so that you can use a local .htaccess file. Alternative: nginx.
PHP 8.1 or higher. Please note that in some shared hosting environments, the command line version of PHP may differ from the web server version.
PHP command line access if register_argc_argv is set to true in the php.ini file and the hosting provider has no restrictions on the use of exec() and proc_open().
curl, gd (with at least jpeg and png support), mysqli, mbstring, xml, zip, openssl, iconv, intl, sodium, bcmath (or gmp) extensions. The imagick extension is not required but recommended.
The xml extension is required if you want to use webdav.
A type of email server or email gateway that enables PHP mail() to function.
A supported database server. The supported databases are:
- MySQL version 8.0.22 or higher
- MariaDB version 10.4 or higher
- PostgreSQL version 12 or higher
The ability to schedule jobs with Cron.

Alternatively, you can install Hubzilla as a Docker container or use YunoHost.
