Complicated question about themes
Background:A user of my hub
Klackerhub has a clone of his channel on that hub, which is primarily located at hub.netzgemeinde.hu.
Recently, ‘Netzgemeinde’ was offline for a long time due to database problems and he made his channel clone on my Klackerhub the primary channel during this time. The theme
neuhub-tab by @
Scott M. Stolz is also installed and activated on Klackerhub. The user has now switched to this theme for his channel on my hub.
After ‘Netzgemeinde’ was running again, he also made his channel there the primary channel again. However, the neuhub-tab theme is not available on ‘Netzgemeinde’. So, the channel appeared there, completely logically, in the
redbasic theme. But when he accessed his channel on Klackerhub, the theme was still set to neuhub-tab and was displayed that way. He then noticed, however, that a number of function calls (e.g. clicking on Home in the activity widget) got stuck.
I advised him to reset the theme to redbasic on Klackerhub as well. And that's exactly what didn't work. It kept switching back to neuhub-tab on its own. The only way to stop it from doing so was to temporarily disable the neuhub-tab theme as an admin. Then he could switch to redbasic and that remained even after I reactivated the neuhub-tab theme for Klackerhub.
Now the question:What happens to channels that have clones on different hubs when a theme is selected on one hub that is not activated/installed on the other hubs? The selected theme is apparently stored in the database and not in cookies. So if I switch to theme XYZ on one hub, will it be synchronised between the instances, even if it is not available on other hubs (and redbasic is then displayed there as a fallback)? And, if so: WHO ‘sets the tone’? So, which setting is decisive? Is it the theme settings of the primary channel and will any differing settings be gradually overwritten when the clones are synchronised? Or will the database entry for the clones remain untouched in the channel properties area?
