i'm wondering if events created by the HZ calendar app could be made more compatible with AP so that masto & co can follow HZ Evens as well

I think Hubzilla events are AP compatible since a long time already. Maybe you need to request support for events at masto if you want that

I have a suspicion (which I cannot prove) that this is once again a typical ‘Mastodon problem’. I don't know how Mastodon handles and manages events. Probably not exactly according to the AP specification, but rather somewhere with its own ‘soup’. And because the Mastodon API specifies it that way, other services and the makers of the WP plugins implement events according to the Mastodon API (you believe anyway that Mastodon is ‘the Fediverse’) and thus Hubzilla, for example, which adheres to the AP specifications, cannot handle it.

It's just a guess...
