@!Hubzilla Support Forum hi everybody. don't know if this is the right place to ask, but i have a little problem with accepting following channels.

sometimes i get the info, that someone has added my channel and i had to accept this. if i want to block the relevant channel i always click on "block". but then the demand to accept the new channel stays put in my stream of demands to accept new channels. i don't want to accept them, i want to block them, not to see anything from them and them not to see anything from my channel.

my question is: why do they stay in the stream of demands to accept new followers if i block them? i want the demand to vanish from my stream after i blocked it.

In my opinion, this is a weakness in channel management. Blocking a channel that you are not connected to only works with Superblock. However, for this to happen, the channel that sent you a connection request would have to appear somewhere in your stream. This only happens if one of your other connections repeats a post from the unwanted channel.

Currently, what you want to do is only possible with a rather inconvenient procedure. You would have to accept the connection and wait until the first post from that channel appears in your stream. Then you can click on the ‘little white triangle’ to add the channel to the superblock list and then delete the connection in the Connections app.

Unsatisfactory! But there is currently no other way.

My idea would be to add a ‘Block completely’ menu item to the connection editor in the contact tools, which would add the channel to the superblock list. When a connection request comes in, you would have to add it to the superblock list and then you could immediately click on ‘Delete’. Then it's gone and so is the request.

Alternatively (or better still, in addition), the ‘Superblock’ app would need to be expanded to allow channels to be added manually. Then you could enter the unwanted channel there and reject the connection request by deleting it.

I'll write that in a feature request...

A quick and effective method is to use the 'delete' option in the 'add connection' dialogue window.
The option to (super)block seems to be an unecessary copy of the woolly mammoth mentality.
Hubzilla already has excellent functionality to stop undesirable content. The only content that cannot be stopped is the public spam that administrators choose to activate on their hubzilla server.

Of course, you can simply delete the contact in the connection dialogue. However, posts from the channel may still appear in your own stream (e.g. in the case of repetitions by other connections or if you have configured your channel to receive all posts in which you are mentioned (Privacy settings ➔ ‘Accept all messages which mention you’). Superblock is the ideal solution to prevent this.

I do not consider Superblock to be an ‘unnecessary copy of the woolly mammoth mentality’. I personally use it for channels whose content I do not want to see under any circumstances, regardless of what they write, because I do not want to have anything to do with the person/organisation behind them. To me, the request here sounded like it was precisely about blocking such channels for such reasons. So the app definitely serves reasonable purposes... and I consider it extremely necessary and useful, because on Hubzilla, you are the moderator yourself.
